PSG attacker Angel Di Maria is reportedly close to completing a move to Barcelona for around £50 million, according to ESPN.
Barcelona are yet to replace Neymar following his record breaking £200 million move to PSG and have been linked with a move for Philippe Coutinho and OusmaneDembele throughout the summer.
The Catalans have failed to sign either of their top targets so far though and now look to have diverted their attention towards recruiting former Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria as the transfer window inches closer to slamming shut.
Di Maria had formerly played for arch rivals Real Madrid, and the move for the Argentine international comes as a desperate attempt for the Catalan giants to salvage a disappointing summer.
The Blaugrana board have come under increasing scrutiny from the fans following the transfer of Neymar and as well as at being unable to tie down superstar Lionel Messi to sign a new contract.
While Neymar is already gone, club chief Joseph Bartomeu and Co. will now hope that the signature of fellow Argentine and close friend, Di Maria, will help to convince Messi to sign a new contract with the club.
PSG are also said to be keen to sanction this move, which will help them balance their books in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
Di Maria might feel that he has some unfinished business left in La Liga after he was unceremoniously forced out to Manchester United in 2014 by Real president Florentino Perez to make way for then new signing James Rodriguez.
The winger’s transfer to Barcelona looks like a win-win situation for every party involved and should be finalized before the window shuts.
