Kylian Mbappe has revealed in a recent interview that he had entertained the idea of staying at Monaco for at least a one more season, despite of interest from Real Madrid and PSG, before eventually changing his mind to join the Parisians.
Mbappe completed a late move during the summer transfer window from Monaco to PSG, which sees the young Frenchman initially join the Paris based club on loan and the Parisians will be obligated to buy the 18-year-old for a whopping fee of around £166 million next season.
Mbappe is widely regarded as one of the hottest young talents in world football after a fantastic debut season last term, which saw him lead Monaco to the Ligue 1 title as well as to a fine run in the Champions League. As a result of his exploits, the teenager was also called up to the French national team recently.
Following such spectacular rise to stardom, many top teams had competed for the signature of the youngster over the summer, with heavyweights such as Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City and PSG all in the race.
In the end, PSG beat off competition from the European and Spanish champions Real Madrid to land the promising forward, who has already been compared with the great Brazilian Pele.
Mbappe recently appeared in his first press conference since making the move and revealed some interesting tit-bits about the development of his summer transfer to PSG, which will possibly be the second most expensive signing of all time.
He said, “It gives me great pleasure to join one of the biggest clubs in the world, which possesses the ingredients to become the best.
“Back in May, I was in the frame of mind that I would stay with Monaco. Certain events changed my mind. It was important not to leave France. It was important to return to the city where I grew up.”
Although the Frenchman did not reveal the exact circumstances that changed his mind, he provided a player’s perspective in some of these mega deals.
PSG will surely be under pressure to produce in both Europe as well as domestically after investing heavily this summer and Mbappe will surely be looking to combine with fellow expensive recruit Neymar to lead the French giants to glory.
