Philippe Coutinho broke down in tears after learning that Barcelona had failed to complete his signing before the Spanish transfer window which closed on September 1st.
Coutinho was the top target for the Catalan giants all summer as a potential replacement for Neymar and they tried their best to get the Brazilian to the Camp Nou, even making a bid as high as £145 million.
However Liverpool rejected any approach for the player, maintaining that they were not going to sell the Brazilian this summer, no matter how high the offer on the table.
Coutinho, who was keen on a move to Barcelona, had submitted a transfer request earlier this summer in order to force a move away from Anfield and he was certainly hopeful that a deal might be reached between Liverpool and the Catalan giants.
Evidently, no bid was accepted for the Brazilian and Barcelona eventually announced their failure to land the flamboyant midfielder during the final hours of deadline day.
Following the failure of the transfer, it has now been revealed that Coutinho was reportedly reduced to tears after learning about his failed move to Barcelona while he was with his national side for international duty.
Nonetheless, the Brazilian shrugged off the transfer disappointment and scored in Brazil’s recent 2-0 victory against Ecuador in the World Cup qualifiers, which sees the 5-time World Champions qualify for the event taking place in Russia during the summer of 2018.
The 25-year-old is yet to feature for Liverpool this season due to a back injury and will finally get the opportunity to play in the Reds’ game against Manchester City after the Premier League resumes next week but it will be interesting to see if the playmaker will be giving it his best for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool fans will certainly hope that Coutinho will now be able to put the transfer disappointment behind him and be able to produce for his team as the Reds look to challenge for the title this season.
