Real Madrid signing Toni Kroos is the steal of the century

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos’s agent Volker Struth has stated his belief that the German’s transfer from Bayern Munich to Real Madrid is possibly the “steal of the century”.

Toni Kroos has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world since his move to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014 and the German international has been a wonderful acquisition for Los Blancos, especially as he cost only €25 million.

In today’s crazy transfer market of inflated prices, Kroos’ transfer fee now looks like a huge bargain and speaking to Sport Bild, his agent, Volker Struth, has stated that the 27-year-old moving to Real Madrid for such a meagre fee is indeed possibly the best business conducted by any club this century.

Struth said, “Looking at the transfer fees these days, and then remembering that Toni was transferred for €25m, you could argue that Kroos is the steal of the century for Real.

“Those in charge at Real only told us after the Champions League final in Cardiff [in June] that they are still delighted to have won over such a player for them. Only to put things into perspective — James Rodriguez back then also joined Real Madrid for €80m [and is now on loan at Bayern].

“We could not reach an agreement with Bayern in late 2013. Toni only got better under [then-Bayern coach Pep] Guardiola, he was — not only for me — the best player at the [2014] World Cup in Brazil, and then had offers from top clubs. It’s a normal process. Toni was not happy with what Bayern offered, and thus talks were put on ice.”

During his time with Los Blancos, Kroos has won numerous honors which include two Champions League trophies, one La Liga title, two FIFA Club World Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and the Spanish Super Cup, and these trophies are a manifestation of his wonderful quality.

In all of these aforementioned triumphs, Kroos has played an integral part for Madrid by forming a solid partnership in midfield with Luka Modric.

His ability to pick up a pass, combined with the dynamism of midfield partner Modric, has allowed Real Madrid to dominate most of their opponents in the middle of the park and this has laid a perfect platform for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco and Gareth Bale to shine in the attacking positions.

Most impressively though, Kroos’ ball retention is what has made him such an important figure for Real Madrid and it goes without saying that the influence the ex-Bayern star has had in Los Blancos’ recent success has been immense.

Therefore, Struth is perhaps correct in saying that Kroos’ signing for Real Madrid has been the steal of the century.
