Arsenal are hopeful of signing Julian Draxler during the January transfer window, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.
Arsenal had been strongly linked with a move for PSG attacking midfielder Julian Draxler this summer after PSG sensationally signed both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe from Barcelona and Monaco respectively but the Gunners eventually came up short in their pursuit of the German star.
Nonetheless, Arsenal still hold an interest in acquiring the services of Draxler and it has been claimed that the North London giants are now plotting to sign the German international during the January transfer window.
PSG had splashed a combined £345 million to sign Neymar and Mbappe and considering the huge amounts involved, it is believed that the French side will find it difficult to comply with the Financial Fair Play rules as things stand.
In order to balance the books, PSG will need to offload some of their players and this provides Arsenal with encouragement in their hopes of signing Draxler.
Amongst all the stars PSG currently possess, Draxler probably fits the bill as a player who can command a reasonably high fee and is currently expendable for the French giants due to the presence of Neymar and Mbappe.
The German is still very young at 23 and has been impressing for both his club and national team in recent seasons. He played particularly well for Germany in the recent Confederations Cup, leading his team to triumph and also bagged the best player of the tournament award.
As a result, Draxler will undoubtedly attract attention of many clubs during the upcoming transfer window in the winter and Arsenal are believed to be the team which is very motivated to land the German playmaker.
The North London club’s two superstars in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, are both into their final years of their respective contracts and at least one of the two aforementioned players look certain to leave the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season. Such a situation means that Arsenal need to sign a replacement capable of filling their boots with distinction.
There are admittedly very few players that can make up for the loss of either of aforementioned players but Draxler, who can play multiple positions, certainly does have the quality to take up the mantle from either Ozil or Sanchez.
