Arsenal manage Arsene Wenger confident that wantaway winger Alexis Sanchez will be focused for the season despite failing to get his desired move to Manchester City on transfer deadline day.
Sanchez was reportedly close to completing a £60million move to Manchester City on deadline day but the move did not go through after Arsenal cancelled the deal at the last minute, citing an inability to find a suitable replacement for the Chilean.
The 28-year-old has reportedly been left saddened by this failed transfer to City and many have since questioned his motivation to turn out for Arsenal this season.
However, Wenger has gone on to deny all of these claims ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming clash against Bournemouth this weekend and has insisted that Sanchez will be fully motivated to play for the Gunners this season.
Wenger said, “I have no doubt about Alexis’ mind and mentality. ‘He needs to come back to full fitness, which he wasn’t at Liverpool (in the 4-0 loss).
“He suffered a negative experience. He’s strong mentally, and will hopefully back to his best soon. The transfer market is over. There was a lot going on that front.”
The 28-year-old is currently in his prime and brings both the quality as well as personality into the field and if Wenger is true in believing that the ex-Barcelona man remains motivated to play for Arsenal, he will be a valuable asset for the Gunners this season as well.
Sanchez is arguably Arsenal’s best player, carrying the north London side for much of last season on his own and in addition to his attacking talents, he is especially liked by the Gunners’ faithful due to the industry and desire he shows for the team in every match.
While the Gunners will definitely be pleased to have successfully retained the Chilean superstar for one more year, they will dread losing him on a free at the end of this season.
