Barcelona are looking to sign Angel Di Maria from PSG after failing to land their top targets Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, according to the Daily Mirror.
Barcelona have been looking to sign Coutinho following Neymar’s move to PSG for a world record fee, but have had their bids repeatedly rejected by The Reds hierarchy as the Merseyside club look adamant to keep their prized asset at Anfield.
Barcelona’s pursuit of Coutinho this summer has been relentless, with the Blaugrana making a bid of as high as £113million for the talented attacking midfielder but the Reds have rebuffed every approach made and have once again recently announced that the player is not for sale.
Following this disappointment, Barcelona will now look to sign Di Maria from Neymar’s new club, PSG, to replace the Brazilian superstar – if reports from the Daily Mirror are to be believed.
If the transfer goes ahead, the former Manchester United midfielder will be a solid signing for the Catalan giants and will surely cherish the opportunity to join his international team mate Lionel Messi.
It will still be interesting to see how the Barcelona fans react to the arrival of Di Maria though, especially after considering the fact that the Argentine featured for arch nemesis Real Madrid for four years.
Barcelona claimed an opening day victory in La Liga against Real Betis which saw new signing Gerard Deulofeu, Neymar’s replacement on the day, put in an impressive performance.
However, the poor displays against Real Madrid in the Super Cup have convinced the Barcelona management that they will need a high profile signing to permanently replace Neymar and compete with the European and Spanish Champions this season.
