According to reports from Football Espana, Barcelona are looking to sign Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez by activating his release clause.
Barcelona have been handed a huge shock with the fact that Neymar will be leaving the club to join Paris Saint-Germain and the loss of the Brazilian superstar will most certainly be a huge blow for the Catalan giants.
Nonetheless, Barcelona will be pocketing a mind boggling £198million in exchange for the 25-year-old and the Catalans will surely be able to use the funds to improve their squad during the next month or so before the transfer windows shuts.
Signing a direct replacement for Neymar will surely be high on the agenda for Barcelona and the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Kylian Mbappe have been linked with Ernesto Valverde’s side over the past few days.
However, finding the replacement for their departing star is not the only thing on the to-do list for Barcelona at the moment and they surely have to strengthen other areas of the pitch in order to be able to compete against Real Madrid for the La Liga title as well as Champions League crown.
Signing a new central defender will be high on the agenda for Barcelona and now according to reports from Football Espana, claims are being made that Valverde is currently looking to sign Real Sociedad star Inigo Martinez.
Martinez has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Spanish La Liga over the past few years and the Spanish international has previously strongly been linked with a move to Premier League side Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola believed to be a big fan.
The 26-year-old has remained loyal to Sociedad despite the interest but now he could finally be set for a move to one of the elite clubs in world football by joining Barcelona.
Barcelona are said to be looking to activate Martinez’s release clause, which is believed to be in the region of around £28million and he would be a very good addition to the Blaugrana backline which has struggled over the past few seasons.
