Premier League champions Chelsea are set to end their hunt for a new left back by securing the services of Abdul Baba Rahman
Chelsea have taken a passive approach in the transfer market this summer and manager Jose Mourinho is insistent that his side require very little strengthening in order to be able to successfully defend their Premier League crown this season.
However following the sale of Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid, Chelsea had been short on numbers at left back and Mourinho had publicly admitted that he was in the market to bring in a replacement for Luis before the end of the transfer window.
Augsburg star Abdul Baba Rahman had often been mentioned as the main target for Chelsea and it was widely reported that the Blues had agreed a fee of around £21million with the German side over the signing of the young defender.
Despite such reports though, Rahman has not yet joined Chelsea and there were doubts creeping in as to whether the transfer would be taking place at all this summer.
Recently, Augsburg manager Markus Weinzierl had confirmed that Rahman would be joining Chelsea but the deal coming into fruition is taking longer than anticipated.
Weinzierl had said, “I would like to continue working with all players, but when you sign someone like Baba from the second division and he’s on Chelsea’s radar 12 months later, it does make the coaching staff proud.”
Now finally in a positive update to Rahman’s potential move to Chelsea, it looks like the 21-year old is finally on the verge of completing a move to Stamford Bridge after he was excluded from the Augsburg side for their Bundesliga opener against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
It is believed that Rahman’s exclusion from the side is due to the fact that the defender is on his way to London and the transfer is now expected to be completed within the next few days.
