Dutch footballer, Jordy Clasie has joined Southampton after playing with Netherlands. The midfielder was signed by Southampton for £8 million. The young footballer will play for the Premier League Club and has signed a five-year deal. He earlier worked with Ronald Koeman, who is the Saints boss at Feyenoord. He played 129 games for them.
He is also credited with being in the team during the 2014 World Cup where his team finished third. The 24-year-old midfielder also has 11 caps for Netherlands. He considers the Premier League to be one of the biggest leagues and feels lucky to be playing in it. After his official move to Southampton, he said in a statement that he is happy to join a big club.
Clubs have been recruiting players for the Premier League to make sure their team has the right balance of energy, leadership and skills. Southampton has also been on the move. Clasie’s entry is the club’s fifth move this summer. The announcement was made a couple of days after Morgan Schneiderlin’s move to Manchester United for £25 million. Southampton acted quickly and filled the gap that was created by Schneiderlin’s departure.
Les Reed who is the executive director of the Saints is all praise for Clasie. He believes him to be one of the most skilled and sought after midfielders in Europe. He stresses the fact that anybody who has followed his career will see a sharp improvement in the footballer’s way of playing. Reed appreciates his qualities and is more than happy that Clasie will continue at Southampton. He also goes on to say that he will grow and improve with the club.
The 24-year-old made his debut four years ago and has been in constant touch with Koeman. The latter has been his former boss at Feyenoord. Clasie has spent a large part of his career under his guidance.
The midfielder is delighted to train under Koeman’s guidance. In a statement, he says that he made the move keeping in mind Koeman and that it played an important role in his joining the club. He further explains that Koeman is a great trainer and a great person. Clasie likes him a lot, but also clarifies that it was an added advantage that Koeman is also part of the club, even if he wouldn’t have been, he would have joined the club anyway.
It is important to take significant decisions for the upcoming leagues. The South Coast club have become experts when it comes to bagging players that will prove as assets. Most of the clubs have cherry-picked their players, and so has Southampton. That is the reason why they did not hesitate in signing Clasie as soon as Schneiderlin left the club.
The club faced a minor setback last year when Luke Shaw joined Manchester United and midfielder Adam Lallana, defender Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert, all of them, joined Liverpool. Now, the team looks fit to enter to the Premier League.
