Celtic have tied down goalkeeper Craig Gordon to a brand new contract at the club
Many felt that Celtic had taken a huge risk by signing Craig Gordon at the start of last season following the departure of Fraser Forster to Southampton.
Gordon had undoubtedly been one of the best goalkeepers in Europe during his time at Hearts and even earned a then record £9million move to Premier League side Sunderland back in 2007.
However, Gordon’s time at Sunderland was blighted with a host of injury problems and consequently, he was released on a free transfer at the end of the 2011/12 season.
After leaving Sunderland, Gordon struggled to return to full fitness and did not find a club for almost three years.
Therefore, it was really surprising that new Celtic manager Ronny Deila decided to take a chance on Gordon last summer to replace a goalkeeper of Forster’s calibre.
The decision turned out to be a masterstroke though as Gordon made more than 50 appearances throughout the course of the campaign, helping Celtic to a league and cup double as well as to the Round of 32 of the Europa League.

Gordon signs a new deal
As a result, Celtic were keen on extending the contract of Gordon this summer and have now moved on to tie down the 32-year old to a new three year deal at the club.
Confirming the signing of Gordon on their official website, Celtic released the following statement, “Celtic are delighted to announce that Craig Gordon has signed a new contract that will now see him remain at the club until the summer of 2018. The Scottish internationalist joined Celtic last summer and proved to be a superb replacement for Fraser Forster.
“His performances throughout the campaign, both domestically and in Europe, confirmed his status as a top-class goalkeeper and saw him recalled to the Scotland national squad.”
Gordon stated that he was delighted to be able to extend his stay at Celtic and heaped praise on the club as well as the fans.
Gordon said, “I am absolutely delighted to extend my contract with Celtic, such a fantastic football club. I have enjoyed my first year immensely at Celtic.
“It has been great to enjoy success already and I’m looking forward to giving everything to bring more good times to our supporters who have given me such a tremendous welcome to the club.”
