Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has dropped a huge hint that he will be looking to acquire the services of Diego Costa from Chelsea during the January transfer window.
Diego Costa has been brilliant for Chelsea since arriving to the club from Atletico Madrid back in 2014 and his 59 goals in 120 appearances for the Blues have gone a long way in helping them claim two Premier League titles in the last three seasons.
Costa managed 20 Premier League goals last term and his contribution proved to be crucial in helping Antonio Conte’s men romp their way to the title with consummate ease.
Despite such fine performances though, Conte unceremoniously informed that Cost would be allowed to leave Chelsea this summer through a text message as the Italian boss is said to have been unhappy with the striker’s difficult attitude last season.
Costa certainly did not take such a treatment well and he seems to have already burnt his bridges with the Blues after failing to report back to training even though the start of the upcoming Premier League campaign is fast approaching.
There are many clubs who could do with the talents of Costa but the 28-year-old has set his heart on a move back to his former club Atletico Madrid, even being pictured with Los Colchoneros’ jersey while on holiday in Brazil.
The problem for the prospective transfer going through this summer is that Atletico are currently serving a transfer ban and will not be able to sign Costa immediately.
Nonetheless, Atletico boss Diego Simeone has now gone on to speak about the possibility of acquiring the services of Costa and has admitted that the Spanish international could be making a sensational return back to the Wanda Metropolitano during the January transfer window.
The Argentinean said during a press conference in Munich to preview the pre-season Audi Cup tournament, “We talk about the players who are here and how the team has been working to keep all the players here.
“All the players want to stay, they want to achieve even better goals and get even better. Diego Costa? If he comes in January… we can’t say anything about that yet. I won’t speak about him now. He is a player of Chelsea. We will talk about the boys who are here now. That is what is important.”
