Inter are reportedly close to finalizing a move for the Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi on loan as the transfer window inches closer to slamming shut.
Inter Milan have been linked with a move for a couple of defenders from the Premier League this summer as the new manager Luciano Spalletti looks to strengthen his backline.
The Seria A side have been touted to move for Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi and Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala in recent times, with reports now suggesting that the former is close to a loan move to the San Siro.
The German International joined Arsenal from Valencia last summer for around £35 million and had a hit and miss first season in his return to England.
Mustafi started off life in the Premier League in shaky fashion but following some impressive performances at the latter stages of the season, the towering central-defender finally looked to have settled in the league. Therefore, his potential move to Inter comes as a surprise to everyone.
Arsenal’s defensive troubles in recent times have been well documented over the years and Mustafi’s move was met with a lot of fanfare last season.
However, signing the talented defender has not had the desired effect for the North London side as they shipped in 44 goals last term and they finished a disappointing fifth in the Premier League.
Mustafi now does seem to be surplus to requirements at the Emirates and it is speculated that Arsenal are willing to accept a loan bid with an obligation to purchase for a certain price.
Arsenal already look light in terms of quality in the defensive department and should Mustafi move away, it might be a long season ahead for the Gunners this term if they do not sign a replacement in the coming days.
