Italian champions Juventus are confident that they will be able to convince left back Alex Sandro to sign a new contract with the club after successfully fending off interest from Chelsea for the defender this summer.
Interest in Sandro was high throughout the summer transfer window, with Premier League champions Chelsea reportedly ready to pay as much as £65 million to bring the Brazilian international to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea had been looking to sign someone capable of playing in the left wing-back position in order to provide cover as well as competition to Marcos Alonso as the London side aspire to compete in the Champions League this season after a year of absence and Sandro had been seen as the ideal candidate by manager Antonio Conte.
Conte tried his best to lure the 26-year-old to London but despite placing a world record bid for a defender, the Blues were unsuccessful in the pursuit.
Juve were adamant to not sell any of their other defenders after losing Leonardo Bonucci to AC Milan and Dani Alves to PSG earlier this summer though and as a result, Sandro stayed put at Turin.
With the defender now remaining with Juventus for the foreseeable future, the Italian giants are said to be confident that they will be able to convince their prized asset to sign a lucrative new deal with the club to extend his stay and also to stave off future approaches.
Sandro has impressed for the Old Lady since his move to Turin from Porto during the 2015/16 season and was instrumental in Juventus’ journey to the finals of the Champions League last season.
The 26-year-old has plenty of time remaining in his current deal which runs until 2020 and this means that the Turin based club can be relaxed about the contract extension for the former Porto star.
