Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has been linked with a move to Juventus as the Old Lady look to replace Leonardo Bonucci.
Juventus currently need to strengthen their central defensive position following the shock move of Leonardo Bonucci to AC Milan as well as due to the fact that their other first choice centre-backs, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli, are entering the wrong end of their thirties.
As a result, Juventus are currently in the market to sign a new central defender and in shock reports, Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has been linked with a move to the Turin based outfit as a potential replacement for Bonucci.
Bonucci’s departure has allowed the promising defender Daniele Rugani first team opportunities this season and so far, the youngster has performed impressively, proving that he can replace the experience defender with distinction.
However, Cahill has now been seen as an insurance policy by Juventus and they certainly could stand a good chance of landing the Blue s’ skipper this summer.
Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Virgil Van Djik from Southampton at the moment, as manager Antonio Conte looks to add one more ball playing defender into his team.
Should the Dutchman complete the move to Stamford Bridge, this might mean that Cahill could be made available for transfer as the young duo of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen look to forge their place in the lineup.
It has been reported that Cahill was told he might not feature as much as he did last season during the current campaign despite being named captain and this has led to speculation regarding the Englishman’s future at Chelsea.
With the World Cup around the corner, the big center-back will hope that he can get regular first team football this season, either at Chelsea or elsewhere, and he would surely welcome a move to a big club such as Juventus.
