Liverpool have been handed a huge boost after top target Benedikt Howedes revealed that he is hoping to make a move to England
The arrival of Jurgen Klopp as manager has certainly excited the Liverpool faithful and given the charismatic German tactician’s tremendous managerial credentials, many expect him to turn the Reds’ fortunes around.
That being said, Klopp most certainly does not possess a magic wand which will automatically turn Liverpool into title contenders and he certainly has a tough job on his hands in order to revive the Reds in the coming years.
There are many areas upon which Klopp will need to bring about an improvement in at Liverpool and in order to so, the 48-year old most certainly will have to reinforce his squad by bringing in new players.
As a result, a host of players such as Robert Lewandowski, Ilkay Gundogan, Andre Ayew and Marco Reus have already been linked with a move to Liverpool and recently, it had been claimed that Klopp was planning to make a swoop for Schalke star Benedikt Howedes.
Howedes is a German international who has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Bundesliga over the past few years and Klopp is more than aware of the 27-year old’s qualities.
There were claims emerging out of England that Klopp would look to tempt Howedes to Liverpool this summer and to fuel speculation regarding his potential move to Anfield, the 27-year old has gone on to admit that he is tempted by the thought of playing in the Premier League.
Speaking to the BILD, Howedes said, “I am still keen on going abroad and playing in England is definitely a flattering option in this respect.
“Still I am with Schalke and I have a job to do at this club. I am not looking at any other thing actually. But, of course, some clubs are somehow more of interest from the point of view of a footballer than other clubs might be.”
Howedes is contracted at Schalke till 2017 and it seems like the German side will only be open to allowing their star defender to leave during the upcoming summer.
Nonetheless, Howedes is certain to remain a Liverpool target and the World Cup winner would certainly improve the Reds’ questionable backline if he were to arrive at Anfield.
