Manchester City are reportedly scouting Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinković-Savić with a view to sign the Serbian international during the upcoming January transfer window.
Milinković-Savić has been likened to former Juventus and Seria A star, Paul Pogba, due to the immediate impact the Spanish born Serbian has had for Lazio during his first season at the club.
The 22-year-old impressed for the Rome based club in his debut campaign last year as he scored four league goals and set up another nine from the center of the midfield, and such good form has seen him attract attention of various elite clubs from all over the Europe.
One of the clubs that have been particularly impressed with Milinković-Savić are Manchester City and it is believed that the Citizen are currently said to be plotting a move to bring the promising midfielder to the Etihad Stadium during the upcoming January window.
Manchester City are in need of young midfielders to receive the baton from senior players who are heading towards the twilight of the career, such as Fernandinho and Yaya Toure, and as a result, manager Pep Guardiola surely knows he will have to sign some younger players sooner rather than later.
Ilkay Gundogan seems to be the type of player who can provide the required quality in the position for City and while the German admittedly is a fantastic option to have in midfield, his persistent injury problems mean that he cannot be relied upon, which in turn demands City to sign someone as cover for the fragile 26-year-old.
Manchester City have reportedly been scouting the likes of Milinković-Savić and Danilo Pereira for a while as the long term replacements for their veteran midfielders and it will be no surprise should they recruit either one or both of them in the foreseeable future.
