Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is likely to be moved out after nine years spent at the club. The fee for the Northern Irishman is expected to touch £8 million. Evan’s tenure at Old Trafford included three Premier League wins, a FIFA World Cup as well as the League Cup, but it seems that manager Louis van Gaal doesn’t see a place for him in the scheme of things any longer.
The 27-year-old Evans put on an impressive performance during United’s tour of the USA last summer, but his fortunes seem to have taken a downturn after van Gaal took charge of the club in 2014. Evans was given a new contract in 2012 by Sir Alex Ferguson based upon which he was signed on for three-and-a-half years more. He has made a total of 198 appearances for Manchester United over his career in the club, but unfortunately for him, his performance has been less than stellar over the past season. He’s been allowed to play only 12 matches in the Barclay’s Premier League last season since the club boss has plenty of other options.
Evans has certainly been unable to live up to expectations and he has been at the receiving end of van Gaal’s ire on more than one occasion the past season. In any case, the Dutchman is not known to be the sentimental sort at all and he is eager to tidy up various loose strings left behind by his illustrious predecessor.
Evans has been linked to Everton although there has been no confirmation from the club about this news. In fact, Everton’s Roberto Martínez has denied that they are looking at the player. Now that United has gone public with its intention to let him go, it is only a matter of time before Evans will be seen in a new kit.
Manchester United is understood to want £10 million in exchange for Evans, but the other team will only agree to a final price that is lower since his contract is set to run out in just about a year. He is presently in the United States with the rest of his team as part of their pre-season tour.
Louis van Gaal has been doing quite a bit of housekeeping at old Trafford and many players who were signed by Sir Alex Ferguson have already left the club. With Nani, Tom Cleverly and lately Robin van Persie exiting the club, it is quite clear that van Gaal’s strategy for the squad doesn’t include Evans.
Another of Ferguson’s signings who fell out of favour with the Dutch manager, Brazilian Rafael da Silva, is most likely joining Turkish side Galatasaray. There isn’t a lot of information about this move as of now, but this is most likely to happen very soon. United is understood to be looking at bringing in centre-back Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid , but the Spanish team is understandably reluctant to let him go, and might even be considering to let him lead the team.
