Under fire Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has stated that he intends to continue at the helm of the club until they win something.
It is no secret that Newcastle United have gone through a roller coaster ride throughout the last few years and the current campaign has been no different.
The Magpies enjoyed a good start to the season but eventually found themselves fighting against the drop on the final day of the Premier League campaign.
Newcastle did manage to retain their top flight status with a 2-0 victory over West Ham United but overall, the season has left a bitter taste on the mouths of the passionate supporters of the club.
As a result, the Newcastle fans are not a happy bunch at the moment and they have categorically pointed the finger for the club’s current predicament on one man – owner Mike Ashley.
Ashley has never been a popular figure among the fans since taking over at the North East outfit 8 years ago and the perceived lack of investment he has put into the club has been attributed to Newcastle struggling over the past few years.
Therefore, majority of the Newcastle fans have not been afraid to openly demand Ashley’s exit from the club and with pressure mounting on the billionaire businessman, it was widely expected that he would finally step down.
Despite the vehement criticism though, Ashley is remaining defiant and has now stated that he will carry on at Newcastle until he can guide the club to a trophy.
A man of very few words, Ashley took the an unusual step to talk to the media ahead of Newcastle’s all important clash against West Ham United on Sunday to state, “By the way, I shall not be selling it until I do. [The club is not for sale] at any price.
“When I say win something, if we ever get in the position that we get a Champions League place that also qualifies as winning something. To be categorically clear, I’m not going anywhere until we win something.”
