Top Three Performers on Saturday: Gameweek 8

Sergio Aguero – Manchester City

Sergio Aguero had been enduring a difficult start to the campaign by his usually high standards but quite naturally, the Argentine international managed to display his best form this weekend and did so in emphatic fashion.

Manchester City brought a halt to their terrible losing streak with a thumping 6-1 victory over strugglers Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday and Aguero spearheaded his side’s win by scoring a stunning 5 goals during the clash.

With City going down early to a Aleksandar Mitrovic goal, the Premier League giants seemed to have their backs against the walls but up stepped Aguero on the stroke of half time and delivered a master class in front of goal which testified the fact that he is one of the best strikers in the world.

Aguero was simply a hungry predator and managed his five goals in the space of just 20 minutes. Aguero had a great opportunity to break the record for the most goals in a single Premier League game but manager Manuel Pellegrini decided to hand his star a much deserved rest in the second period.

Nonetheless, Aguero’s brilliant performance will certainly live long in the memory and it is sure to give the Newcastle defenders a nightmare they will never forget.

Kevin De Bruyne – Manchester City

Sergio Aguero deservedly stole all the headlines with his stunning five goal performance against Newcastle United on Saturday but it has to be said that the Argentine international’s exploits would probably not have been possible if it were not for the contribution of Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne has looked every bit of the £54.5million Manchester City splashed out for him since he has arrived at the Etihad Stadium and the attacking midfielder delivered another sensational performance against Newcastle United.

While Aguero was banging in the goals, De Bruyne was pulling the strings from the middle of the park and the Belgian’s wonderful performance saw him grab two assists as well as a well taken goal on the volley.

If De Bruyne continues to deliver such performances, not many will keep questioning his enormous price tag and strange as it may sound, the Manchester City club record signing could well end up being a bargain.

Yohan Cabaye – Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace continued their brilliant start to the season with a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday but it has to be said that the Eagles were made to work really hard in order to claim the victory on the day.

Against a stubborn West Brom side, Palace really had to grind in order to be able to break the Baggies backline down and unsurprisingly, it was Yohan Cabaye who provided the inspiration in the second half for the Eagles to take the lead.

Delivering a sumptuous cross into the box, Cabaye produced the moment of magic which allowed Yannick Bolasie to give Palace the lead and from that point on; there was only one winner from the clash. Cabaye then went on to convert from the penalty spot in emphatic fashion to secure the win for Palace.

In addition to his contribution in the two goals, Cabaye was a huge influence from the middle of the park and it was due to his presence that Palace were able to control majority of the game.

Cabaye is already looking like a wonderful signing for Palace and with the Frenchman pulling the strings, a European finish could well be within the realms of possibility for the soaring Eagles.
