According to reports carried out by the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur will look to revive their interest in Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes during the January transfer window.
Tottenham were believed to be close to signing Gomes during the recent transfer deadline day but evidently failed to land the Portuguese midfielder and claims are being made that Spurs will try their luck once again when the window reopens in January.
Gomes has not had the best time since moving to Barcelona from Valencia for around £50million last summer and the 24-year-old has seen his career stall at the Nou Camp, as he featured only sporadically for the Catalan giants during the previous campaign.
As a result, there was widespread speculation that Gomes could be leaving Barcelona this summer and Spurs were reported to be amongst the many clubs interested to sign the midfielder. However, the Premier League side failed to agree a deal for Gomes before the passing of the deadline day on August 31st.
Despite the failure in the summer though, recent reports from Spain have now suggested that the North London side will be back for the Portuguese international in January.
Tottenham had been looking to bring in a number of midfielders into their squad throughout the summer and were linked with a host of targets such as Gomes and Barkley. Pochettino’s side clearly failed in both pursuits but they will look to revive the interest in the duo this winter.
Tottenham have failed to win the Premier League title despite coming close for two seasons in a row now and as a result, they will be keen to right the wrongs this time to finally lift the English crown this term – which will certainly not be easy.
Gomes would perhaps have been among the players to make a difference had Spurs successfully landed the midfielder but they will still hope that signing the 24-year-old in January will be enough to bring them success.
Pocettino’s men have failed to win any of their home games this season in their new home so far but they will be among the bookies favourites to win the league title this term and it will be interest to see if they can break the Wembley curse anytime soon.
