Trabzonspor chief Muharrem Usta has revealed in a recent interview that the Turkish side had talks with Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere regarding a possible move during the summer transfer window.
Wilshere has been out of the first team picture at Arsenal in recent years after failing to prove his fitness and the midfielder is yet to feature for the first team this season.
Last year, the English playmaker endured an underwhelming time at Bournemouth after failing to impress for The Cherries during his season long loan spell at the Vitality Stadium.
Wilshere’s inability to stamp his authority at Bournemouth has left many speculating as to whether the Englishman is good enough for Arsenal after all and there were widespread reports linking him with a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Now Trabzonspor chief Muharrem Usta has gone on to confirm that his side were interested in signing Wilshere over the recent transfer window and the 25-year-old was indeed very close to joining the Turkish outfit before the move collapsed during the last minute.
Speaking with the Turkish-Football, he told, “I held direct talks with Jack Wilshere. We wanted him on loan and were close to a deal but the move stalled at the last moment.”
Wilshere was regarded as one of the biggest prospect for the future not too long ago and many believed that he would go on to become the captain for both Arsenal and the England national team.
However, he has failed miserably to live up to the expectations and as a result, has gone through a fall from grace of spectacular magnitude, which was perfectly illustrated by the fact that he did not even start regularly for Bournemouth last season.
Persistent injuries have been attributed for his shortcomings and it might take a long time for the Englishman before he can return to his best, if ever.
Nevertheless, Wilshere remains one of the most influential players on his day and Arsenal will be hoping that the midfielder can produce something of note during the current campaign.
