Wenger adamant Alexis Sanchez will be staying put at Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that star man Alexis Sanchez will remain at the Emirates Stadium beyond the end of the summer transfer window.

The saga surrounding Alexis Sanchez’s future at Arsenal has been ongoing for quite a while now and with less than a fortnight to go before the start of the Premier League campaign, no one is closer to knowing whether or not the Chilean superstar will remain with the Gunners.

One thing is certain though, Sanchez has not yet signed a contract extension with Arsenal and as long as he does not put pen to paper on a new deal, one can be sure that the rumors linking him with moves to PSG, Manchester City and Chelsea will simply refuse to die down.

Amid all the speculation, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has maintained his stance that Sanchez will not be leaving the Gunners this summer and the French boss has gone on to reiterate this fact during a press conference ahead of the Community Shield Final against rivals Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.

Speaking about Sanchez, Wenger stated, “He is focused. My decision is clear, he will stay. He will accept that. I think he will be here for this season. If we manage to do it for more seasons we will.”

Wenger then went on to comment on whether or not Sanchez will be featuring in the clash against Chelsea this weekend and hinted that the 28-year-old could be handed game time as he has looked sharp despite arriving to pre-season later than the rest of the squad.

Wenger continued, “The frame of mind of a footballer is quite easy – once you go out into the game, you focus on that. (He is) good, you can see it in training. He needs to work on his fitness but he is sharp and looks like he has never been away.”

If Arsenal keep hold of Sanchez, they will potentially be missing out on around £40million in transfer fees but at the same time, keeping him at the Emirates will significantly boost the Gunners’ hopes of finally mounting a bid for the Premier League title once again.
