Inter Milan are reportedly preparing a bid for PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot with intentions to sign the Frenchman during the January transfer window, according to Football-Italia.net.
Luciano Spalletti joined Inter from rivals Roma during the off-season and he has been tasked with the daunting job of leading the former European champions back into the Champions League after years of absence in the competition.
Inter last appeared in the Champions League during the 2011-12 season and the failure to feature alongside the Europe’s elite in recent years has resulted in a considerable drop in the stature of the club.
In order to make it back into the Champions League, Inter will have to considerably strengthen their squad and according to reports from Football-Italia, the Nerazzurri are currently said to be plotting a move for talented PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
Rabiot is a product of the Paris Saint Germain academy and has been with the club since 2011. During his time at the French capital, Rabiot has established himself as an important player in the PSG midfield and is seen as a long term replacement for Blaise Matuidi, who has departed to Juventus this summer.
The youngster has been in impressive form over the last 18 months or so and PSG manager Unai Emery has now entrusted the 22-year-old with his side’s creative duties at the middle of the park.
Therefore, Rabiot attracting Inter’s interest is no surprise and he will undoubtedly make Inter a much better team with the quality he offers. However, signing the midfielder in January will be tough for the fallen Italian giants as PSG will definitely not want to part with a player whose best years are still ahead of him.
As a result, much of Milan’s hope of signing the French international rests on the player’s potential decision to not extend his contract, which is set to expire in 2019 and any other outcome might result in Inter backing away.
If indeed Inter sign Rabiot, the young French international will undoubtedly be a major coup as he has all the qualities of a top player who can still develop further in the coming years.
