Manchester United are believed to be scouting Roma’s box-to box midfielder Radja Nainggolan as the Red Devils look to add depth in their midfield.
Manchester United look set to lose experienced midfielder Michael Carrick in the near future as the veteran has entered the twilight of his career and as a result, the Red Devils are said to be looking to replace the elegant Geordie with Nainggolan.
The 29-year-old has consistently been linked with a move to Manchester United and according to reports; Jose Mourinho’s scouts have reportedly been watching the Roma star with an eye to a move in the January transfer window.
United’s interest in Nainggolan had cooled since their acquisition of Paul Pogba from Juventus last season, but the Red Devils’ desire to sign the midfielder seems to have been rekindled once again as they now intend to replace their eldest statesman in Carrick.
Carrick is a deep lying playmaker whose real strength lies in building up the attack with measured passes from deep and when off the ball, intercepting opponent’s offensive efforts by positioning himself intelligently between the lines.
Nianggolan, on the other hand, is a much more physical player who relies on his power as well as timing of his runs from the midfield to contribute to the attack and his dynamic movement and strength is very important for his current team Roma in terms of providing protection to the defenders.
The Belgian also boasts an impressive passing ability and although he does not quite posses the precision on the ball like Carrick, one can say that the experienced campaigner is a Mourinho type of player who will work hard off the ball.
While it is clear to see that Nianggolan is a completely different sort of player to Carrick in a pure technical sense, the Belgian international would surely be a great addition to the Manchester United squad.
